Is women's vaccination against HPV in the Czech Republic cost-effective? Bachelor's Thesis Author of the Thesis: Martina Lušková Abstract This thesis approaches the cost-effectiveness of women's vaccination against human papillomaviruses (HPV) in the Czech Republic. HPV is a pathogen responsible for the majority of diagnosed cervical carcinomas. The aim is to assess the current reimbursement setting of HPV vaccination compared to the designed change. In order to increase the vaccination coverage and subsequently decrease the future treatment costs, two strategies were proposed. A homogenous multistate Markov model is developed to model the transition among states representing the stages of progression of the cervical carcinoma. Transition analysis is performed based on the data collected for the purpose of healthcare reimbursement under public health insurance. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio suggests that increased immunization coverage (from 65.8% to 80%) fuelled by the campaign promoting vaccination seems to be cost-effective assuming the threshold of 1.2 million CZK per one quality-adjusted life year. The strategy promoting the vaccination together with extending the age (from thirteen-year-olds by cohorts of fourteen- and fifteen-year-olds) at which vaccination is reimbursed delivers analogous...
Negotiating municipalities-industrial factory wastewater treatment coalition project: an economic laboratory experiment
Šauer, Petr ; Kolínský, Ondřej ; Prášek, Jan
It is often the case that municipalities and industrial plants treat their wastewater separately bringing the municipalities wastewater to be treated at the industrial wastewater treatment plant and reused by the plant creates potential for social costs saving for both the municipalities and the private firm. In an economic laboratory experiment we demonstrate that such voluntary agreement could be achieved even despite the presence of information asymmetry. This follows our previous research on win-win voluntary agreements and the role of information asymmetry. The biggest challenge remaining to be addressed is the distribution of the extra cake, which in our results is mostly seized by the private firm.

Private subject in wastewater treatment regional coalition project: the case of chemical industry factory
Prášek, Jan ; Šauer, Petr
This paper presents a case study covering the solution to treatment of municipal wastewater originating from small villages located close to each other in a protected landscape area. A high environmental efficiency of treatment is required. Two scenarios of the technical solution are compared. In the first scenario, separate wastewater treatment plants will be built and operated in each of the villages. In the second one, sewerage networks will be built in each village and wastewater will be collected and treated in a wastewater treatment plant of a chemical factory located down the stream; the factory is planning to reconstruct and modernise its wastewater treatment plant. Analyses have shown that the second scenario is environmentally beneficial – ensuring high water quality in watercourses in the protected area, using purified water for industrial purposes primarily, and replenish the water balance and flows in dry periods. The second scenario also appears to be beneficial from a socio-economic point of view. Cost savings, appearing mostly at the side of the factory, creates space for negotiation and an agreement between these entities. The factory image will also improve if implementing the second scenario.

Cost-effectiveness of energy efficiency investments in the Czech Republic
Stárek, Michal ; Vojáček, Ondřej (advisor) ; Jílková, Jiřina (referee)
The aim of the thesis is to determine why there are set wrong conditions of public expenditure programs to improve energy efficiency in the Czech Republic. The thesis analyzes conditions of funding and planning of specific projects funded by the Operational Environment program. The main criterion for evaluating projects is the consideration of energy efficiency. Methodologically, the research is based on an analysis of secondary data and the concept of cost-effectiveness. Based on the analysis, recommendations are made for changes in processes and parameterization of public expenditure programs in order to take account of higher energy efficiency criteria in the design and selection of supported projects, and thus be the energy efficiency target for 2020 by 20% could be achieved.
